Sephiria Wrath Talent: Crit Chance, Boss Damage, Ignore DEF
Wrath has the narrowest per-point line of the seven talent trees and, for that reason, is the easiest one to misjudge. Every point is one percent of critical hit chance and nothing else. There is no secondary stat riding along, no utility, no inventory space — which means the tree is worth exactly what your bag does with a critical hit, and that number varies more between builds than the talent line itself ever does.

The three things Wrath gives you beyond crit chance
| Points spent | What arrives |
|---|---|
| 5 | Critical damage rises by 20% |
| 10 | A 10% damage bonus that applies only to bosses and mini-bosses |
| 20 | 20% of enemy defence is ignored |
Read those as three separate purchases rather than one climb. The level 5 line is a multiplier on an event you may rarely trigger; the level 10 line is a flat bonus in the fights that decide a run; the level 20 line is the only part of the tree that stops caring about crit at all.
Why the level 20 line is the one to argue about
Ignoring a fifth of enemy defence sounds like a damage rounding error until you check what defence does over a run. The site's damage types page records that enemy defence grows as stages progress, and Hard Mode's Protective Armor modifier stacks another +2, +4 or +6 on top of that as you climb, at a cost of three tiers. Defence is the stat that scales against you fastest, so a flat percentage of it is worth progressively more the deeper you are — the opposite shape to crit chance, which is worth the same on floor 1 as on floor 30. That is why the capstone reads as a late-run purchase even though the tree it sits on looks like an early-run damage pick.
The level 10 line has a similar shape. Boss and mini-boss damage is dead weight in corridors and live in exactly the rooms where Hard Mode's Combat Stance makes boss patterns more aggressive and False Vanguard hands mini-bosses an extra attack. If you are climbing tiers rather than clearing chapters, these ten points are not a damage talent — they are a time-to-kill talent aimed at the only fights that are getting harder.
The crit chance itself is the smallest part of the tree
Twenty points buy twenty percentage points of crit chance. That is real, but it is also the part of a crit build that your bag supplies most easily. The combo tags page lists an entire tag — Precision — built for it: Warm Stone for critical damage, Faultfinder Needle for critical chance, Scythe of Berut, Balisong and Ebony Scale. The Sturdy tag carries the Golden Crown of Arrogance, which turns final-hit attacks into crits outright. Two Miracles do the same job: the tier 50 evasion tank names Rogue for crit plus evasion and Hunter for crit damage.
So the honest comparison is not "Wrath versus nothing." It is "twenty talent points versus the two or three artifact slots that would have produced the same crit chance" — and slots are the resource this game is stingier with. That is the case for stopping Wrath at 10 on any build that already runs Precision.
What crit is worth changed in 2025, and most advice has not caught up
The damage types page documents the redefinition of Execute: it used to deal a flat 400% and explicitly did not count as a critical hit, and since the October 2025 update it doubles your own critical damage multiplier and does count as a crit. That single change converted Execute from a build-agnostic effect into one that pays proportionally to critical damage you already stacked. Wrath 5's +20% critical damage therefore has a second, indirect buyer that older guides do not mention at all.
Two patch-note entries on the 1.0.19–1.0.24 page are worth reading before you trust any crit arithmetic you find elsewhere. Loving Gaze went from +50% to +100% Whirlwind crit chance. Adonis changed from critical damage "increased by 30%" to "amplified by 30%" — and amplification sums rather than multiplies, which is a nerf wearing the clothes of a wording fix. Crit sources in this game do not all combine the same way, and the game has not published the formula.
Where Wrath sits in published spreads
Route 1 on the build routes page reaches for Wrath second, after five points elsewhere, and leaves the tail of the spread open. The Burning Fang fire dagger build puts twenty points here as its headline choice — and publishes an alternative that removes Wrath entirely in favour of twenty points of MP regeneration, on the reasoning that a build reapplying Burn constantly runs dry before it runs out of crits. Two documented spreads for one weapon, one with the tree maxed and one with it empty, is a fair summary of how conditional this tree is.
Before committing, run the spread through the talent planner, which totals every tree against the pool and marks the breakpoints you land on. Respec is free outside the dungeon, so Wrath is a per-run decision, not a permanent one.
Not confirmed
There is no published formula for how critical chance from talents, artifacts and Miracles combines, and no in-repo source states a base crit chance to add these percentages to. The Adonis wording change is the only direct evidence we have about how any two crit sources interact, and it covers amplification only. Treat "20 points of Wrath equals +20% damage" as unconfirmed — the crit chance figure is documented, the damage it converts to is not.
