Sephiria Hard Mode Tier 50 Build: Swift Regret Evasion Tank
The only Hard Mode tier 50 clear written up in full on Steam is not a damage build. It is an evasion-and-defence tank built around the Swift Regret great sword, and its author is explicit that the DPS "wasn't super high — it's not meant to be." The run wins because guaranteed evasion, high defence, a resetting shield and lifesteal let you stand in front of a boss "theoretically indefinitely." This page lays that run out so you can copy it, and says where the author's own confidence stops.
Everything below is one player's documented run, not a tier list. Sephiria has never published a build ranking and neither do we — see the builds overview for the other documented routes.

Why Swift Regret
Swift Regret gives bonus normal-attack damage and changes the great sword combo so you get three "final attacks" instead of one. That matters because a specific set of artifacts buffs final attacks, and the Sturdy tag (physical damage) stacks on top. The author tried Solis Sineris (the Solar Blade great sword) and The Inquisitor on lower tiers before settling on Swift Regret for the tier 50 attempt.
The weapon's weakness is the reason for the talent spread below: a great sword locks you in place mid-swing, so attack speed is survivability as much as damage.
The setup
| Slot | Choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Costume | Brown Bunny | Evasion. The whole build is hybrid evasion/defence. |
| Talents | Swiftness 5 · Willpower 20 · Agility 20 | Swiftness for attack speed on a weapon that cannot move mid-swing; Willpower for luck on item rolls and for the Wish Fountain; Agility for survivability. |
| Wish Fountain | Crown of Humility + Frostium Ring | The Crown is a "build-necessary" legendary the author did not want to wait for. Frostium Ring is there to deal the Cold damage that activates the Glacier items below. |
| Fruit Skewer | Sturdy · Precision · Shadow · Wind Song · Guardian | Sturdy + Precision are the damage base; Wind Song adds evasion, melee range and attack speed; Shadow and Guardian hold the survivability items. |
| Miracle | Rogue (crit + evasion) — author's preference; Hunter (crit damage) or Attendant (defence) also fit |
Two notes on that table. The talent names are printed as the author wrote them, and they do not map one-for-one onto the current English tree: there is no talent called Agility in 1.0, and the seven talents are Wrath, Swiftness, Survival, Endure, Wisdom, Willpower and Ingenuity. The closest match by effect (evasion, dash) is Swiftness, which the author also lists separately — so treat "Agility 20" as "the evasion line, maxed" and check the names against your own screen. What is unambiguous is Willpower 20, which is doing double duty: luck on drops and the Fountain capacity that lets you carry two artifacts in.
The gameplan
The author's central claim is about where the run is lost: floors 1–3. On tier 50 the build is incomplete there — no tank items, no damage, no sustain — and enemies hit hard enough and fast enough that you cannot sprint through rooms the way you do on low tiers. Most of the failed attempts died to floor 1–3 bosses because tank was taken too late.
So the early priorities are flat: get the anvil upgrades for the sword, take whatever random items and tablets appear, and take bag slots. Every successful high-tier run the author had involved getting an entire extra row in the bag, because the tablets need room to Tetris — see the inventory grid page for why a row is worth more than any single item.
One item is explicitly a trap early: Vital Touch (Sturdy). The author took it early in several runs and lost them; it belongs in the bag only once the tank is solid.
The artifacts, by combo tag
The guide marks items with one or two asterisks for importance. We keep that marking.
| Tag | Must-have (\\) | Strong (\*) | Also good |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sturdy | Golden Crown of Arrogance (final-hit crit chance), Eternal Winter (Glacier bond, very high damage) | — | Agma Projection Sword No. 190/191, Amulet of Courage (lifesteal), Thorn Charm, Mystical Pendulum, Vital Touch (late) |
| Shadow | Broken Sapphire (hybrid tank + guaranteed evasion), Shimmering Eye (guaranteed evasion on crit — fills fast with the Crown) | Cloak of Verdant Spirit, Elastic Band | Pinwheel, Battle Bracelet of Lerid, Six Leaf Clover, Green Gi, Model Beak |
| Glacier | — | — | Echo of the Glacier (defence + Frostbite), Feet of the Ice Gull (Cold stat), Snow Mountain Long-eared Bat |
| Wind Song | Wind Sheet Music ("must have" for the great sword's range) | — | Sword Training Manual, Golden Cloak, Clear Cube, Wings |
| Precision | Warm Stone (crit damage), Faultfinder Needle (crit), Scythe of Berut (synergises with the Crown) | — | Balisong, Ebony Scale |
| Guardian | Hand Mirror (resetting 10 HP shield), Beast's Heart (defence + damage + luck), Lizard Plate Armor (defence) | — | White Crust Bread (reroll it at an urn if taken early) |
The honourable mentions are mostly Mystic: White Egg Shell (clears floors and the Qliphoth tentacles), Cintamani Stone, Crystal of Harmony paired with Impact Amplifier (fourteen levels of true damage), Blue Ring (universal damage). Having many Mystic items also gives the ×2 slot bonus, which the tablet solver page explains how to plan around. Two are trader-only: Toxic Spore Pouch and Lunch Box. Bloodstone Earrings is the same trap as Vital Touch — huge lifesteal, but taken before defence it gets you killed.
Two of these names have patch-note history worth knowing. Broken Sapphire's effect was being drawn over speech bubbles until 1.0.30 — cosmetic, but it tells you the item is in active use. And the 1.0.26 multiplayer rule that temporary HP is lost whenever your maximum HP changes matters for a Guardian-heavy bag in co-op, because Green Heart rooms will wipe it.
How the pieces fit
The loop is: the Crown turns final attacks into crits; crits fill Shimmering Eye's guaranteed evasion; Broken Sapphire supplies more guaranteed evasion and defence; Hand Mirror resets a shield; Amulet of Courage and the Sturdy damage keep lifesteal ticking. Frostium Ring plus a Glacier item or two applies Frostbite often enough that Scrap of Red Cloth (Curse) — the one non-tag honourable mention — gets its percentage bonus.
None of that requires high DPS, which is the point. The author's summary: "I had no problems with this build once I got past Floor 4."
What this page does not claim
We have not reproduced the run. The numbers above are the author's item list, not measured values, and Sephiria has no published damage benchmarks. The guide does not name the patch it was played on; checking its item list against every note from 1.0.19 to 1.0.30, the only change that touches it is the cosmetic Broken Sapphire fix — no artifact on the list has been rebalanced (the August artifact changes were Green Sawblade and Frozen Bow, neither of which is here).
If you want the same idea with less setup, the Storm Cloud great sword route clears the campaign on lower tiers; this build is for the tiers where that stops working.
