Sephiria Burning Fang Build: Fire Dagger Burn Route

Burning Fang is a Dagger route built on repeated contact rather than one large hit: throw daggers to apply Burn, keep re-applying before stacks fall away, and let weapon attacks' Fire Damage scaling do the rest. It's the best-documented full route for a class most players avoid — see the Dagger guide for why the community rates the weapon as Sephiria's hardest — and unlike a from-scratch experiment, this one has an attributed source describing a working pickup order rather than a list of good items in no particular sequence.

Like every build page on this site, this is one documented route, not a tier-list entry — the builds overview explains why we don't publish a ranking.

The route in one sentence

Start on base Dagger, commit to Fire Dagger, and finish on Burning Fang: the endpoint adds Fire Damage scaling to weapon attacks and makes thrown daggers apply Burn, so the route wants frequent contact instead of one oversized hit. Lock the fire branch before collecting narrow burn-support pieces, build Ember combo thresholds as your inventory allows, and treat attack speed and MP sustain as uptime stats rather than secondary priorities — they determine how often you can reapply Burn, which is the entire mechanism the build runs on.

Weapon route and why the order matters

TierUpgradeWhat it does
1DaggerBase weapon — hold here only while the fire branch is still available at the Anvil
2Fire DaggerChanges the special attack into a five-projectile fire throw
3 (endpoint)Burning FangThrown daggers apply Burn; weapon attacks gain Fire Damage scaling

The sequencing note matters more than it looks: secure Fire Dagger first, before chasing individual Ember artifacts, because the build's damage identity doesn't exist until the special attack itself is throwing fire. Picking up narrow burn-support pieces before locking the weapon route risks wasting bag slots on items that only pay off once Burning Fang is live.

Combo target: Ember

The build's primary combo target is Ember, and the recommended core piece is Ohia Lehua, whose weapon-hit Fire Damage keeps the Ember package useful on Dagger without requiring a specific weapon restriction elsewhere in the build. Phoenix Wing is listed as a viable alternative when it improves either the active Ember threshold or your survivability more than Ohia Lehua would in a given run. Beyond those two named pieces, remaining bag slots should go to whatever most directly supports Fire Damage, Burn uptime, or MP economy — the build doesn't specify a fixed remainder, which tracks with how most documented Sephiria routes leave secondary slots run-dependent. For the general mechanics of how Ember and other tags actually pay out at their thresholds, see the artifact tags page.

Character and talent choices

The build's primary character recommendation is Red-Clothed Cat, chosen because its character bonus amplifies Fire Damage directly, matching Burning Fang's own scaling. Braided Hair Rabbit is the listed alternative for runs where movement and attack speed matter more for safety than raw Fire Damage output — a reasonable swap on a class already criticized for thin melee range and tight i-frame windows, per the Dagger guide above.

For talent points, the build recommends 20 Wrath, 20 Swiftness, 10 Ingenuity as the primary spread — direct damage and throw cadence first, then the extra reward choice from Ingenuity for route consistency. The listed alternative swaps in 20 Wisdom in place of Wrath specifically for MP regeneration, when repeated casts start running the bag dry faster than fights end. Cross-reference both spreads against the breakpoints on the talents page before committing points, since talent allocation in Sephiria is not easily respec'd mid-run.

Pickup order and how to play it

The documented pickup order: secure Fire Dagger first, add two useful Ember pieces next, then finish Burning Fang, and only expand the combo further once each additional pickup also improves Fire Damage, Burn uptime, or survivability specifically. The explicit warning attached to this order is not to hold weak Ember pieces simply to chase a distant threshold — a mediocre item that happens to carry the right tag is still a mediocre item.

In practice: throw from the edge of enemy reach rather than closing to melee range, move while Burn ticks rather than standing still to confirm the damage number, and reapply Burn before stacks fall away. Save Fury or another committed special-attack window for a clear line of enemies rather than firing it into a crowded counterattack — a decision that matters more on Dagger than on a weapon with better raw survivability, since a wasted special here costs you more of the fight's tempo.

When to pivot away

Stay on the Burning Fang route when Fire Dagger and at least a small Ember package both arrive early in a run. The documented pivot condition is specific: switch to a physical Dagger plan instead if the fire branch is missed at the Anvil, or if your bag is filling with items that don't improve Fire Damage, Burn application, or special-attack uptime. That's a meaningfully different failure mode from a build that just underperforms — it's a signal the run's item pool isn't supporting this particular identity, and continuing to chase it costs more than switching would.

What we're not printing

The build source does not give numeric Burn damage-per-tick figures, exact Ember threshold values, or a specific Hard Mode tier this route has cleared — those remain not confirmed pending a source that states them directly, rather than something we're willing to estimate. Treat the route as a documented pickup order and playstyle, not a guaranteed-clear build.
