Sephiria Shadow Combo: Evasion Artifacts Explained

Shadow is the evasion tag, and it is the only tag on this site with a documented Hard Mode tier 50 clear built directly on top of it. That clear is not a dodging showcase. It is a build that arranges for evasion to happen without a reaction, by holding artifacts that grant guaranteed evasion off events the player is causing anyway — and that is the difference between Shadow as a survival tag and Shadow as a collection of small percentages.

The counting rules that govern every tag are on the combo system page; the one-table summary of Shadow's picks sits in the combo tags cross-index.

Threshold: two

Shadow appears in the one published threshold list this site holds, at two artifacts, alongside Guardian, Magitech, Ember, Glacier and Elemental. That is a low bar and it is the point: two Shadow artifacts is a normal accident rather than a plan, which is why the tag turns up in builds that are not about evasion at all.

The pick list

The tier 50 evasion tank marks its Shadow artifacts by importance, and this page keeps the marking.

PriorityArtifactRole as the guide describes it
Must-haveBroken SapphireHybrid tank and guaranteed evasion; the author calls it extremely powerful
Must-haveShimmering EyeGuaranteed evasion on a critical hit
StrongCloak of Verdant Spirit, Elastic BandEvasion support
Also goodPinwheel, Battle Bracelet of Lerid, Six Leaf Clover, Green Gi, Model BeakFiller that also counts toward the threshold

No percentage is published for any of them. Where the guides use the phrase "guaranteed evasion" they mean an effect that does not roll, not an evasion stat high enough to be reliable — those are different things and only the first is documented.

Why Shimmering Eye changes the shape of a build

Shimmering Eye pays out on critical hits, which means its uptime is set by a different tag. The tier 50 build runs Sturdy's Golden Crown of Arrogance to make final hits crit, and the Precision tag's crit-damage pieces on top. The author's note is that the Eye fills quickly once the Crown is in — so the evasion half of that build is powered by its damage half.

This is the practical reason to read Shadow as a mid-run tag rather than an opening one. Two Shadow artifacts on floor 1 give you two small effects. The same two artifacts after your crit rate is real are a different item.

The dash loop two other builds use

Both the lightning boomerang spellbook and the fire Blade guides name the same pairing: Battle Bracelet of Lerid with Elastic Band, which they describe as turning a single dash into near-permanent evasion for as long as you keep landing dodges. Neither guide publishes durations or a stack cap, and neither claims the loop survives a missed dodge.

The spellbook author's framing is worth keeping: for a caster he prefers evasion over the Shield Bag's defence route entirely. The guide states the preference and the survivability trade-off it sits inside — not a stated reason for evasion specifically over defence — so read this as a documented preference, not a measurement.

What the costume and the talent tree add

A costume is the one build decision made before the run seeds anything. The tier 50 build names Brown Bunny for evasion — note that this site's costumes page lists a default rabbit called Brown Rabbit and no entry under the exact name Brown Bunny, so treat the two as the same wardrobe slot only if your own screen agrees; the naming is not confirmed.

On the talent side, Swiftness grants +8 evasion and an extra dash at level 5 and adds 0.1s of dash invincibility at level 20, while Ingenuity's per-point line pairs evasion with max HP. One warning that matters here: the White Wolf costume grants unlimited dashing but removes invincibility frames while dashing, which works directly against a Swiftness capstone — evasion sources in this game do not all add up, and two of them actively cancel.

The one patch note on this tag

Nothing in the 1.0.19 to 1.0.30 window rebalanced a Shadow artifact. The only entry that names one is cosmetic: the tier 50 evasion tank and combo tags cross-index pages both state that 1.0.30 stopped Broken Sapphire's effect being drawn over speech bubbles. Not confirmed: this site's own compiled 1.0.25–1.0.30 patch page does not list a Broken Sapphire entry, so treat the patch number as reported rather than independently checked against the primary notes. That is still useful information either way — a cosmetic fix to an artifact is evidence that the item is common enough in live play for the overlap to be reported.

Where evasion stops working

The tier 50 author is explicit that high-tier runs are lost on floors 1 to 3, before the tank exists, and that sprinting past rooms stops being viable there. Evasion artifacts are the part of that build that arrives last, because they are the part that depends on crit rate, defence and bag space already being in place.

So the honest ordering is: bag slots and defence first, Shadow second, and the guaranteed-evasion pieces treated as the payoff rather than the plan. A bag holding Shimmering Eye and nothing that crits is holding a blank artifact.

Not confirmed

No evasion percentage, cap, duration or stack rule is published for any artifact on this page, and this site holds no developer statement describing how evasion is rolled. The relationship between the evasion stat, "guaranteed evasion" effects and dash invincibility frames is undocumented. The Brown Bunny naming question above is open.
