Sephiria Costumes: Stat Trades in Rabbit Clothing
Start with the thing the sources disagree about, because it changes whether this page matters to you at all: do Sephiria's costumes affect gameplay?
Destructoid's roundup calls them cosmetic. AllThings. How's guide documents a fixed passive stat package on each one — most pairing an upside with a matching penalty — and a Steam discussion thread from early access debates the balance of the Mole costume's perks, which is not a conversation people have about pure cosmetics. Two independent sources describing effects outweigh one saying otherwise, so this page treats costumes as build decisions: small stat trades you lock in before a run. Where we quote a specific effect below, it comes from the AllThings. How documentation.
What the wardrobe contains
The official 1.0 announcement says "20+ costumes." Destructoid's count reaches twenty: eight default rabbits you have from the start (Pink Bunny, Armored Bunny, Brown Rabbit, Braided Hair Rabbit, Orange Rabbit, Red-Hooded Rabbit, White Rabbit, Wing-Eared Rabbit), six earnable, three hidden, and six added at 1.0 — which by that arithmetic means some category boundaries blur between sources; AllThings. How counts "about 22." Nobody outside TEAM HORAY has a definitive number, and the wardrobe has grown at least once since launch.
For scale: the same 1.0 announcement lists the game's other systems at six chapters, six weapon lines, roughly 300 artifacts and about 70 tablets — so a twenty-piece wardrobe with stat effects is not a side gallery, it is one of the larger option pools you draw a build from.
The defaults are the closest thing to true cosmetics here. The interesting ones are earned.
The earnable set: conditions and what they actually do
Red-Clothed Cat — unlock by stacking Fire damage to 50 in a run. Wears +5 Fire damage against −5 Ice damage, and starts runs with a Fire Bolt grimoire. The obvious partner for a burn build, and the free grimoire makes it useful even before the stats matter.
White Wolf — beat Rataka, the Pillager leader, five times or more. Grants unlimited dash at the price of no invincibility frames while dashing. This is the clearest skill-expression trade in the game: strictly better mobility for players who dodge by positioning, strictly worse survival for players who dodge through attacks. Note the interaction with the Swiftness 20 talent, whose entire capstone is dash i-frames — the two work against each other.
Red Fox — collect 10 Tablets in a single run. +6 inventory slots, −50% healing. Six extra cells on a thirty-cell grid is enormous; half healing is a real bill for it. Suits builds that win by not being hit, or groups where a co-op partner can carry recovery.
Skeleton — take 333 cumulative damage in one run (an unlock you will earn by accident). Revives you at 60% HP up to twice per run, with max HP capped at 50. Effectively three lives on a glass body — a genuine option for Hard Mode attempts where a single mistake otherwise ends a deep run.
Frog — stack Shock damage to 50. Mole — kill 300 of the fanatic moles. Wizard Bunny — 50 magic kills. Wingless Bat — complete the Blood Donation event five times. Effects for these four are less consistently documented, so we list the conditions and leave the numbers to your wardrobe screen rather than copying figures we cannot cross-check.
The crossover: own Dungreed, get a costume
Adventurer Bunny unlocks by simply having Dungreed — TEAM HORAY's previous game — in your Steam library. No in-game action required. If you have ever wondered whether the studio's roguelite pedigree shows in Sephiria's design, the answer is stitched into the wardrobe.
The six nobody has cracked yet
The 1.0 additions — Otter, Eagle, Fairy of Fortune, Turtle, Forest Cat and Ghost — have no documented unlock method anywhere we checked; Destructoid explicitly lists them as "unlock methods pending." They have been in the game since 31 July, which makes them the most interesting open puzzle in Sephiria right now. When a verified method surfaces, this section gets rewritten; until then, distrust any site that lists conditions for them with confidence, because the sources that actually track this game do not have them.
How to think about picking one
A costume is the only build choice you make before the run seeds anything, which makes it your one guaranteed lever. The sensible frame: pick against your known weakness, not toward your strength. Players who die deep pick Skeleton; players who never touch their healing potions anyway pick Red Fox; positioning players take White Wolf. The default rabbits remain correct for a first clear — every earnable option is a trade, and trades need enough game knowledge to price.
