Sephiria Blade Guide: Sheath States, Issen and Solis Line
Blade was announced under a different name — "Katana" — before it shipped in patch 0.8.11 as Blade, and the class still plays like the announcement promised: a stance weapon built entirely around alternating between sheathed and unsheathed states. If you're wondering why your Blade run feels like a different weapon depending on whether you just attacked, that alternation is the entire design, not an incidental detail.

The one mechanic that defines the class
Everything about Blade reads through one axis: Sheath grants an invincibility window, and leaving it changes what your inputs do. Iaido Slash is the drawn normal attack — the hit you get from breaking sheath — while Issen and Heavy Slash are the class's two specials, both keyed to your stance. Unlike Great Sword, where the special is a single charged ability you build a route around, Blade's power comes from timing the sheath/unsheathe cycle correctly rather than from any one button.
One upgrade makes this literal: Heidi ties Overheat stacks directly to your Dash Count, and 1.0.19 buffed it meaningfully — Overheat gain on Sheath rose from 2 to 3, and the stack cap from 6 to 9. That's a 50% increase to both the rate and the ceiling of a mechanic that only exists because of the sheath cycle, which tells you how central the developers consider it to the class's identity.
What 1.0.26 changed
The most recent substantive Blade change is also the clearest safety buff the class has received: Lightning Flash's Special Attack: Issen now grants invincibility while sheathing, added in 1.0.26. Before this patch, the moment of re-sheathing after Issen was a vulnerability window; now it isn't, for players running that specific upgrade. It's a narrow, named fix rather than a class-wide rework, so it only applies if you've taken the Lightning Flash line specifically — but it's worth checking your current build against, since guides written before 13 August 2026 won't reflect it.
Two smaller items from the same patch window are worth knowing if something on Blade looks broken rather than by design: 1.0.23 fixed Solis Iubar firing a different special attack than intended above 150 MP, and the Scabbard of Exorcism's projectile direction was occasionally wrong in multiplayer, also patched that window per the 1.0.19 to 1.0.24 record. Neither is a build decision, but both explain behavior that could otherwise read as a bug in your specific run.
The Solis family and its dependency trap
Blade's most-documented route by far is the Solis upgrade family — Solis Iubar, Solis Missio, Solis Cineris, Solis Fracto, Solis Dekri, and Solis Braca — which Chinese-language build guides refer to as 火太刀 (fire Blade). The dependency worth understanding before you commit to this line: the katana consumes Solar Blade charges, it does not create them. That single fact is why the route needs a dedicated charge-generation piece to function at all rather than running on the weapon alone — the full pickup order, the mandatory artifact, and the Pure White Cloak's 30-second buff window are documented on the dedicated Fire Blade build page, which this page treats as the canonical write-up for that specific route rather than duplicating it here.
Note the similarly-spelled name trap here: Solis Sineris is not part of this Blade line at all — the Great Sword guide documents it as that weapon's own Solar Blade upgrade, tested by one experienced player alongside The Inquisitor on lower Hard Mode tiers before a different route was chosen for a tier 50 clear. Confusing it with Blade's Solis Cineris above is an easy mistake to make from the name alone.
Blade in a magic-damage build
Blade also shows up outside its own dedicated route: the "magic-crit Blade" line — the katana variant with magic critical damage — is the highest-ceiling weapon option in the documented Lightning Boomerang spellbook build, where the build's own author recommends it for players "chasing numbers" over the safer Staff or Sword & Shield alternatives. That's a different use case from the Solis fire route above — a magic-crit Blade build is casting a spellbook continuously and using the weapon's crit scaling as a damage multiplier, not leaning on Sheath timing the way a pure Solis route does. Knowing both uses matters because "Blade build" in community discussion can mean either one depending on context.
What we're not printing
TEAM HORAY has never published a numeric i-frame duration for the Sheath state, so exact invincibility windows are not confirmed — we can confirm the mechanic exists and that Lightning Flash's Issen now extends it into the re-sheathing moment, but not how many frames either window covers. We also have no verified Blade-specific win-rate or tier-list data; any ranking claim for the class is attributed community sentiment, not something TEAM HORAY has stated.
