Sephiria Beginner Guide: Your First Tower Run Explained
Play the inventory, not the weapon. Sephiria looks like a twin-stick roguelite where you pick a sword and swing, but the thing that actually decides how far you get up the tower is how you arrange Artifacts in your bag. New players lose runs in chapter 2 because they treat the inventory as storage instead of as the build.
Here is what a run is made of, and what to learn in which order.
What one run looks like
You are a bunny from Bunnyville. On the Day of Destiny a demon horde arrives, and each run is an attempt to climb the tower and stop what is waiting at the top. The full journey spans 6 chapters, and the challenge escalates chapter by chapter.
During a run you do three things repeatedly: fight through rooms of enemies, pick up Artifacts and Tablets, and decide where those items sit in your inventory grid. Between runs you unlock Talents that carry forward.
The three systems that matter
1. Weapons. There are 6 distinct weapon classes, and each has more than 50 unique upgrades to unlock. That number matters more than it looks: you are not choosing between six weapons, you are choosing which of six upgrade trees you want to invest in over many runs.
2. Artifacts and Tablets. Artifacts are collected during a run and empowered with Tablets. The official description calls this a strategic inventory system — you arrange items to suit your abilities. Placement is a real decision, not flavour text. This is the single biggest gap between a player who clears chapter 3 and one who does not.
3. Talents. Each run unlocks new Talents. This is the roguelite progression layer, and it is why an early loss is not wasted time.
What to do in your first three runs
- Run one — do not optimise. Learn the dodge timing and how rooms are laid out. Expect to die.
- Run two — commit to one weapon. Pick a single class and take every upgrade offered for it. Spreading upgrades across classes is the most common early mistake.
- Run three — start reading your bag. Before you leave a room, look at where your Artifacts sit and whether a Tablet is doing anything for a neighbour.
Common early mistakes
- Hoarding Artifacts you never place well. A well-placed common Artifact beats a rare one dumped in a corner.
- Switching weapons mid-run. Your upgrades are tied to the class you have been feeding.
- Playing co-op before you understand solo. Co-op supports up to 4 players and lets you revive teammates, which hides your own mistakes while you are still learning them.
What we have not verified yet
Specific Artifact names, Tablet effect values, and per-chapter boss tactics are still being verified in-game. We would rather leave those blank than publish numbers we have not confirmed — the counts on this page (6 weapons, 50+ upgrades, 60+ enemies, 10+ bosses, 6 chapters) come from the official Steam feature list.
